Frequently asked questions

Learn how FidMarket works for buying, selling, funded offers, usernames, settlement, wallets, and notifications.

General

What is FidMarket?+

FidMarket is a marketplace for buying and selling Farcaster FIDs, along with any attached username tied to that account.

What is a Farcaster FID?+

A Farcaster FID is the permanent numeric identity of a Farcaster account. It is the core identity record behind the account.

What am I actually buying?+

You are buying control of the Farcaster FID. If the listing includes a username, that username is treated as part of the sale.

Is FidMarket only for Farcaster accounts?+

Yes. FidMarket is designed specifically for Farcaster FIDs and related account assets.

Is FidMarket officially affiliated with Farcaster?+

No. FidMarket is an independent marketplace built for Farcaster identities.

Do I need a crypto wallet to use FidMarket?+

Yes. You need an Ethereum wallet to sign in, list an FID, buy an FID, or make funded offers.

Which network does FidMarket use?+

FidMarket uses Optimism for Farcaster identity-related flows. Funded offers also run on Optimism.

Buying

How do I buy an FID?+

Open a listing, connect your wallet, enter your recovery address, sign the required authorization, and complete checkout.

What payment methods are supported?+

Buy Now uses the payment currency shown on the listing. Funded offers use WETH on Optimism.

Can I buy if my wallet already owns an FID?+

No. A wallet that already owns an FID cannot receive another one.

Why do I need to enter a recovery address?+

The recovery address is the address that will be set for the FID after transfer. It is an important part of Farcaster account control.

What happens after I pay?+

Once payment is confirmed and all required signatures are collected, settlement proceeds and the FID is transferred to the buyer.

How long does settlement take?+

Settlement is usually quick, but timing depends on signature readiness, network confirmation, and settlement processing.

Can I cancel after paying?+

Not normally. Once checkout is committed and settlement begins, cancellation may no longer be possible.

What should I check before buying?+

Make sure the FID, username, price, wallet address, recovery address, and payment currency are correct before confirming checkout.

Selling

How do I list my FID?+

Connect the wallet that owns the FID, create a listing, provide the required seller authorization, and publish it.

Do I give up my FID immediately when I list?+

No. FidMarket is live-first by default. You keep custody of the FID while the listing is active.

When is my FID actually locked into a sale?+

The listing becomes reserved only when a buyer starts checkout or when an accepted funded offer creates the order flow.

Can I still use my Farcaster account while it is listed?+

Yes. Under the live-first listing model, you keep control while the listing is active.

Can I cancel my listing anytime?+

You can cancel an active listing as long as it is not already reserved, settling, or sold.

Can I edit my listing after publishing?+

You can update supported listing details while the listing is active. Once it is reserved, settling, or sold, editing is restricted.

Offers

What is a funded offer?+

A funded offer is a buyer offer backed by WETH held in offer escrow on Optimism.

Why are offers funded in WETH?+

Funded offers prove that the buyer has committed value before the seller accepts.

Do I need to approve WETH before making an offer?+

Yes. If your allowance is insufficient, you will be prompted to approve WETH spending before funding the offer.

Can I cancel an offer?+

Yes. Open offers can be cancelled. For funded offers, cancellation may require on-chain confirmation.

What happens when a seller accepts my offer?+

The offer is converted into the sale flow, the FID settlement begins, and funds remain controlled through escrow logic until completion.

Do offers expire?+

Yes. Every offer has an expiry time. Once expired, it can no longer be accepted.

Can I make more than one open offer on the same listing?+

Typically no. The system prevents conflicting open offers from the same buyer on the same listing.

Usernames

Does the username come with the FID?+

If the listing includes an attached username, it is treated as part of the sale.

Can I buy just a username without the FID?+

No. FidMarket is centered on the FID itself.

Can I see whether a username is attached before buying?+

Yes. Listings show the current fname if present.

Can I change my username from the account section?+

FidMarket includes username management status in the account area. Availability depends on ownership state and whether the FID is blocked by an active marketplace flow.

Why is username management blocked on my account?+

Username actions may be blocked if the FID is part of an active listing, reserved order, or settlement flow.

Will a username change reflect instantly everywhere?+

Not always. Registry changes and Farcaster client visibility can depend on propagation and hub-side updates.

What happens to the username after a successful sale?+

If the listing includes an attached username, FidMarket treats it as part of the sale and marks the username step completed when settlement succeeds.

Wallets and custody

What does seller-held mean?+

It means the seller still directly owns the FID on-chain while the listing is active.

What does custodial mean?+

It refers to a supported execution path where marketplace custody can be involved. Live-first seller-held listings are the default flow.

Can I transfer my own FID outside the marketplace?+

Yes, if it is not blocked by an active listing or order and you are the direct custody owner.

Can I hold multiple FIDs in one wallet?+

No. A wallet can only hold one FID at a time.

Why does the app say my FID transfer is blocked?+

Because the FID may be attached to an active listing, a reserved order, or an in-progress settlement.

Why must the connected wallet match the FID owner?+

Because Farcaster transfers require valid signatures from the correct on-chain owner.

Security and trust

Is FidMarket non-custodial by default?+

Yes. The default listing flow is live-first, meaning sellers keep control while listed until checkout begins.

How does FidMarket reduce buyer risk?+

It uses wallet authentication, on-chain verification, signature checks, escrow paths, and settlement checks before final completion.

How does FidMarket reduce seller risk?+

Buyers must provide valid authorization, and funded offers require WETH funding before acceptance.

Can someone sell an FID they do not own?+

No. Ownership and authorization are checked against Farcaster on-chain data.

Does FidMarket store my wallet private keys?+

No. Wallet actions are signed in your wallet. FidMarket never receives or stores your private keys.

Why do I sign messages?+

FidMarket uses wallet signatures to confirm ownership, authorize Farcaster transfer actions, and verify that the correct wallet is approving the action. Signing a message does not give FidMarket your private key.

Payments and fees

Who pays marketplace fees?+

That depends on the listing’s fee mode. A listing may be configured as seller-pays or buyer-pays.

Where can I see the total I will pay?+

The listing and checkout flow show buyer total, seller net, and pricing breakdowns.

Why does Buy Now use ETH but offers use WETH?+

They are separate flows. Buy Now follows the listing payment configuration, while funded offers use WETH-backed escrow on Optimism.

Can I get refunded if something fails?+

If a payment or settlement flow fails under conditions covered by the marketplace logic, the corresponding refund or review path is used.

Orders and settlement

What does Reserved mean?+

It means the listing is temporarily locked because an active order is in progress.

What does Settling mean?+

It means payment and signature collection are complete enough for settlement processing to be underway.

What does Sold mean?+

It means the order completed successfully and the listing is no longer available.

What if settlement fails?+

The order may move to failed or needs review, depending on what went wrong.

What happens if the seller does not complete settlement?+

If a seller does not provide the required final authorization within the allowed time, the order can move into a review or refund path depending on the order state.

Will I be notified when my order updates?+

Yes. FidMarket supports notifications, including Telegram if you have linked it.

Account and notifications

Can I manage my account inside FidMarket?+

Yes. Account features include FID status, transfer tools, username status, and notifications.

Can I link Telegram for notifications?+

Yes. Telegram linking is supported so you can receive order and settlement updates.

What notifications does FidMarket send?+

You can receive notifications for order creation, signature steps, payment confirmation, settlement completion, failures, and review states.

Support

Why does a button say my action is unavailable?+

Usually because the listing is sold, inactive, reserved, settling, or your wallet does not meet the action requirements.

Why can’t I buy or offer from my current wallet?+

Most commonly because the wallet already owns an FID, is on the wrong network, lacks required funds, or does not match the expected signer.

Which wallet should I connect?+

Use the wallet that should become the FID owner after purchase, or the wallet that already owns the FID if you are selling or managing it.

Can I use FidMarket on mobile?+

Yes, as long as your mobile wallet supports the required signing and network switching flows.

How do I contact support?+

You can contact FidMarket support through the official support channel listed on the site or project profile.
